As you may or may not know, I am also a jewelry designer. Having another creative outlet is a wonderful thing as an artist! It allows me to explore and create many different ideas and mediums. Here, I've let my two mediums crash into one another! What I've found really great is how the scale and scope of my work gets really thrown for a loop. When creating jewelry, some of my pieces I consider gigantic, but, when paired with a painting, they become miniscule! To see more of my pieces, you can shop locally at Trohv or online at this<a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/570533968/buy-one-give-one-to-a-nurse-includes?ref=shop_home_active_2&frs=1"> link</a><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I really love painting the outdoors. Having been brought up in the land of Wyeth, you'd think I would have taken to it sooner! However, better late than never I guess! Here's a sweet little piece I did of nowhere specific, just a place in my head that showed up in black and white! This one measures 4x4 inches and is about 1.5 inches deep. If you'd like a custom scene painted, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/706054457/custom-hand-painted-landscape?ref=shop_home_active_1">contact me through my etsy </a>and send me a photo. </div>

</a></div>Will probably log in a few more hours...but thought I'd post a photo of the painting I've been working on lately, entitled Focus. <br />
<br />
You may have seen <a href="http://jenniferwilfong.blogspot.com/search/label/What%27s%20Happening">the post about the artistic exchang</a>e I did with<a href="http://johnforte.com/gallery/"> singer/songwriter John Forte. </a> The premise behind our artistic collaboration was he'd create a song inspired by a painting I had done. As he worked on the song, he sent me rough drafts and concepts he was conjuring and creating. The first draft he sent me was very surreal, almost trance-like, and I listened to it on repeat as I began working on the painting above. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZx6slVhOnIJ8Kjg748sW8uo6xpfFf6gvwo2k2_IAOGyRlRGzm75iFv84XkYGRZQE7pGK0727IhvNHReYI0LBFSI9QuBZtkXJMuzNlXXvBa7TIUZico-zOcL2nFHbAaLnAhRswW56d1To/s1600/phase+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZx6slVhOnIJ8Kjg748sW8uo6xpfFf6gvwo2k2_IAOGyRlRGzm75iFv84XkYGRZQE7pGK0727IhvNHReYI0LBFSI9QuBZtkXJMuzNlXXvBa7TIUZico-zOcL2nFHbAaLnAhRswW56d1To/s400/phase+1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's a before pic. </div><br />
A little more back story...<br />
When John and I met, the synergy was pretty amazing. We began walking through<br />
the streets of New York, as complete strangers, and when we returned from our walk, it felt like I had reunited with an old friend. I know it sounds hokey, but it was a lovely thing! <br />
<br />
At one point during our walk, we were getting philosophic and discussed how, what you decide to focus on in life is so important. You can focus on the negative or the positive. I tend to be one who does the latter, I guess I feel like it's easy to focus on the negative. I think it takes more energy, creativity, and effort to seek out beauty, kindness and joy in all the chaos and craziness of this world. If being happy were easy, then everyone would be happy. I think it only takes shifting your focus.<br />
<br />
This doesn't mean that I deny the fact that there is some serious eff'ed up things going on in the world. Believe me, I am very aware. I just don't care to add to the negativity that's already out there. My mission in this lifetime is to inspire and create as much love, kindness and joy as humanly possible. It's a lofty goal, but one I try to abide by daily. Some days are tougher than others, but all in all, I know it's the best way for me to live. Anyway, the reason for spouting off all of the above, is to let you know that the main thoughts going through my head when working on this piece was joy of meeting John, listening to his rough drafts, and meditating on the concept of "Focus". <br />

Update: Here's a link to an acoustic version of the song.<br />

It's pretty big (approximately 3 x 6.5 feet) and the idea that comes to me when I see it, is if the girl stood up, she'd burst through the edges of the painting and out into who knows what! To me it's about our potential and all the "what if's" we go for and those we don't.<br />

You never know who you're going to meet, and what adventures lay ahead of you. It's a long story of why and how, but this past year I met up with the amazing singer, songwriter and Grammy award winning producer <a href="http://johnforte.com/blog/photos/13095296">John Forte</a> in New York. Basically, we decided to engage in an artistic exchange...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9m-XFPfCgF_sjCUdilaGCWBnSdmcZ6ZjjshslpmPhbdxa4n4N00bOTsMvkE5OffJgHiO6Xe70OIDMgVFp7kt1mRB0fTOOpIBUwBjTUlAsmcahccpxBS9Wh7EueUAQVVDBLajyGPyBEpU/s1600/r.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9m-XFPfCgF_sjCUdilaGCWBnSdmcZ6ZjjshslpmPhbdxa4n4N00bOTsMvkE5OffJgHiO6Xe70OIDMgVFp7kt1mRB0fTOOpIBUwBjTUlAsmcahccpxBS9Wh7EueUAQVVDBLajyGPyBEpU/s1600/r.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">Premise- I'd bring up a painting for him, and in exchange, I'd get a song that he would create, based upon his interpretation of the painting. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Cool right?!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMVBXupgt7gPzB3quhOXpTmTvuVsMSVpcEhA1VCIJ51hUhut6L8pv4uJyn-2r7Ljl6TbrWmBE9UmPSy_earNlqNhTRWR2EWt5Nr5XNuwsE08IMBCFxoXBwbRbtEPGfwY4JFawMD75NapM/s1600/painting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMVBXupgt7gPzB3quhOXpTmTvuVsMSVpcEhA1VCIJ51hUhut6L8pv4uJyn-2r7Ljl6TbrWmBE9UmPSy_earNlqNhTRWR2EWt5Nr5XNuwsE08IMBCFxoXBwbRbtEPGfwY4JFawMD75NapM/s320/painting.jpg" width="220" /></a></div> </div><div style="text-align: left;">To me, the painting "A Closer Examination of the Components of Love" (pictured above) is about love, and all of the hardships and battles you face and endure in the name of love. Be it the love a mom has for a child who is driving her nuts, or the love that keeps you in a relationship despite the fact that your lover is also quite capable of making your life miserable.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway, John's interpretation just blew me away. The song "Upon Closer Examination" he came up with is so intense and honest- it just breaks my heart and gives me the chills every time I hear it. I really love it!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</b></span></div>I create original paintings, in almost every medium and size, and have developed<span class="text12"> three distinct series that I've been working on throughout my career.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #3d85c6; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Inner Space / Outer Space</b></span><span class="text12" style="font-size: large;"> <b>Series</b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="text12">My works in oil are extended explorations of color, shape, texture and emotions. They are created stream-of-consciously, and are visual diaries of my inner thoughts. Although they are deeply personal, they tend to evoke lots of emotions in others as well. </span> <span class="text12">I rarely have an intended result in mind when I get started on a piece, some take a few unbridled moments, others can take years to finish. </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><img alt="[solstice.jpg]" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglKWEaWKIZXpNl_EKlrMyvoLFpjfRU-lY2lSHceoRputmuqNq8uwgCbB0o1XNU7agswm4QnM_tNgk0FnVDsKLXaZYhsKvnRQMpN0Nc0fcxlv7lSaPtcd_GbsW0FiG9xIZu9D7sGN4Fwrg/s1600/solstice.jpg" /> </div><div style="text-align: left;"><div style="color: #3d85c6;"><br />
<b><span class="text12" style="font-size: large;">Universal Appeal</span></b></div><span class="text12">My ink washes on paper are figure studies that are larger than life, literally. </span>The universal appeal of the human body is my main inspiration for this group of paintings. Throughout history artists have attempted to capture the human body in one form or another. I think it's our innate tendency to gravitate towards the simple, proportioned, and unadorned beauty found in nature that perpetually calls artists to try their hand at recreating and interpreting that beauty.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNsbFm4LabmxrLqvoyWryLX5RUnIrnWP-8Zk0LB_CSSNUIQ2gWj4bAGonmoF-X_vmoPXLHot7osfGWjWNZ27X5za0nmSEFEnLbkx3-XXvPpxfXW3om0F9I0s-Rn0T4qOrN7OauS0jU2vc/s1600/ua2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNsbFm4LabmxrLqvoyWryLX5RUnIrnWP-8Zk0LB_CSSNUIQ2gWj4bAGonmoF-X_vmoPXLHot7osfGWjWNZ27X5za0nmSEFEnLbkx3-XXvPpxfXW3om0F9I0s-Rn0T4qOrN7OauS0jU2vc/s1600/ua2.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
All are hand painted with India ink and China marker on Rives Arches paper. The original drawings are larger than life - three feet wide by six feet tall - and are based on the female body. The first round of these drawings were commissioned by ZOM development for the Hotel Victor<a href="http://www.jenniferwilfong.com/gallery_victor.html#"> and placed in the ocean front luxury suite</a>s. From these originals I selected small vignettes to create a series of <a href="http://www.effusiongallery.com/home.html">limited edition prints</a> that outfitted the rest of the hotel. </div><div style="color: #3d85c6; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #3d85c6; text-align: left;"><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span class="text12">Nature in Black and White</span></b></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="text12">This series explores nature in dramatic and unexpected ways. The paintings range in size, from tiny carved miniatures to large scale canvases, all in black and white. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjolcAA00f3Off5J8KEEBmx3sZ6U1ntBXNT9yain0YBMgeqYPQaUn8kKFRjZ4M1qIsELdciEbbJXSzQrdQOcbV1AIirYGu7qutaTiSWy9Uc7CgShXGs6VuK5Hwjj4KWEeCgpPzThtTzTbg/s1600/FLOWER+DECAL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjolcAA00f3Off5J8KEEBmx3sZ6U1ntBXNT9yain0YBMgeqYPQaUn8kKFRjZ4M1qIsELdciEbbJXSzQrdQOcbV1AIirYGu7qutaTiSWy9Uc7CgShXGs6VuK5Hwjj4KWEeCgpPzThtTzTbg/s320/FLOWER+DECAL.jpg" width="207" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="text12">I work on numerous pieces simultaneously, so my studio is constantly full of works in progress... </span><br />
